Dear Mrs Joyce,

I was deeply saddened to learn of Mike's passing. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this incredibly difficult time.

Although I only met Mike briefly through Mrs Joyce, his energy was truly infectious and left a lasting impression. Even in our few interactions, I could feel his genuine love for others and his special care for children. It's rare to encounter someone whose warmth and authenticity shine through so clearly in such a short time, but Mike had that remarkable gift.

Mike was a true educator and a students first mentality. Mike and Linda Ewing built an outstanding Knowledge Bowl Team at DHS. They won several state competitions as well nationally. His radio voice still resonates the halls of Cedaredge and Delta High School. Rest well my friend. God Bless .

Mr. Sandham was my one and only band teacher, choir director and truly was an inspiration in my life for the love of music. I still think I am a Drummer.
I had the opportunity to referee at the State Wrestling tournament in Denver when Mike was announcing. His voice was comforting to me and was just like being in his band room at good old Cedaredge High School in the 1970's. Deb and I talk about Mr. Sandham and what he taught us in high school band and what a positive influence he was to both of us. Our deepest condolence Gene & Deb Lillard

Mike was solely responsible for my finishing high school and moving forward in a positive and meaningful way. I still relish my memories as his TA my last two years at good Old Cedaredge High. I first met Mike when he came to Cedaredge and I was in the 6th grade & he came to the class to recruit for the junior high band and he became an integral part of my school life for the next 6 years. He was indeed one of the good guys!

I first knew Mr. Sandham in the mid-1970s when I was a student at Delta High School. I believe he was band Director at Cedaredge High School at the time when I participated in individual clarinet competitions. He was also a judge for Speech and Debate meets in which I competed.

During the summer of 1974, Mr. Sandham assisted Richard Weldon who was band director at Delta High School when the four high schools in the county joined forces and formed the Delta County Marching Honor Band. I was chosen as Drum Major for that band as we marched in parades throughout the county and made a memorable trip to Wyoming to march in the Cheyenne Frontier Days parade. Mr. Sandham was my mentor drum major, and I came to know him fairly well as a student.

After college and teaching for five years in Antonito, Colorado, I came to know Mike as a boss & colleague when he hired me to teach English and coach volleyball & basketball at Cedaredge High School. We shared many conversations about education, teaching, coaching -- as well as many laughs about kids, life and such. I loved my years of working for/with him at Cedaredge High School. I also had the honor of teaching his daughter Kelly.

Although we lost touch in the past 40 or so years, I will never forget Mike as he roamed the halls of Cedaredge HS. May God rest his soul.

Mike hired Bob in 1979 to teach math at Cedaredge High School. Bob respected him and enjoyed the time they worked together. By hiring Bob, Mike changed our lives. We raised a family in Cedaredge! We fondly remember attending parties and activities with Mike and Joyce.
It's so very hard to loose one who is loved. The world seems a bit less bright.
