Thomas Edward Murray

March 25, 1947 ~ August 10, 2020 (age 73)


Thomas Edward Murray passed away on 8/10/20 after a short, unexpected illness.  Tom was 73 years old.  He is survived by son Edward(Emily) Seattle, WA brother Douglas (Vicki) Gold Canyon, AZ sister Phyllis Cronley (Tom) Estero, FL and sister Martha Dornbos Aurora, CO.  Tom had four grandchildren, Zachary and Caitlin Crittenden, Charles Wallace and Sylvia Murray.  He also had six nieces and nephews.  Tom was preceded in death by mother Helen, father Clarence and daughter Faye Helen.

Tom was born March 25, 1947 in Muskegon-Muskegon Heights, MI.  He spent his entire childhood there, graduating from Mona Shores High School Muskegon, Michigan in 1965.  After graduation Tom had a short stint as a machinist before enlisting in the United State Marine Corps on April 18, 1968.  Tom did his basic training at Camp Pendleton, CA and after basic trained as a Track Vehicle mechanic,  responsible for repair and maintenance of tanks and other track vehicles.  Tom was assigned to the USMC base in Okinawa.  From there he also served two tours in Vietnam.

Tom served out his remaining military obligation on Okinawa where he achieved his final rank of SGT E-5.  Tom was discharged from the Corps in November, 1971, his various service decorations included the sharpshooter badge, the Vietnam service medal and NCO School certification.

Upon discharge Tom moved his family back to MI, settling in Lansing, MI.  He went to work for GM-Oldsmobile. In the early 80's he started a new life in Aurora, CO working as a semi-driver for Coca-Cola.  He then was hired as a semi-driver for the Beco, Inc., where he drove semi until his death.

Tom will be buried with full military honors at Ft Logan National Cemetery, Denver , CO on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 11:00.  Your thoughts and condolences to the family may be posted on our Tribute page.
