Today is January 8, 2026 and I've just discovered that Lenny Vigil passed on in 2024. I'm stunned and full of sorrow to know that this great soul has gone to heaven much too early although I know he's with the Lord Jesus and has reunited with his beloved wife Keri. The past few weeks I kept thinking I should send Lenny a quick email to just check in and see how he's doing even though it’s been a few years since our last communication. I'm so sad that I'm too late to do that. I came to know Lenny when he worked for a short time at a local community college (which shall remain nameless) for our Facilities department. As I got to know Lenny, I was impressed by his strength of character, his integrity, excellence in all he did and his positive energy. He was an amazing human being that I shall always be grateful to have gotten to know. The fact is that when you recognize that you have one person of great value in your midst, in your work environment, you will not hesitate to “have their back.” It was as if he was my younger brother. Occasionally, he’d share some of his astounding experiences from his employment with the Federal Bureau of Prisons which always left me in complete awe. He departed the college in summer 2020 with a bottle of limoncello I bought for him and Keri to enjoy and a goodbye card many people had signed wishing him well. I then retired as planned April 2021. A co-worker, Wes, and I had the pleasure of meeting Lenny for lunch at Jose O'Sheas one time and it was great to reconnect and discuss “work gossip” and life in general. My last email to Lenny was in April of 2021 wishing him and his family a blessed Easter. Lastly, in one of our earlier email communications, this one dated September 18, 2020, Lenny wrote, “just thought I’d drop you a short line to let you know how things are going in the Life of Lenny and the Gang. I do miss you folks and wish things could have been different, but we are where we are for some reason, so I will not fret.” To Mr. Lenny Vigil, I bid you God’s perfect peace.
