Leonard Vigil's Obituary
Leonard Carl Vigil, 59, of Arvada, Colorado, passed away on June 24, 2024, at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, following complications from liver cancer.
Born on October 26, 1964, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Leonard Verle Vigil and Maria Isabelle Lucero, Leonard was the younger of two children. He is survived by his older brother, Delbert Vigil. Leonard graduated from El Dorado High School in 1982 and enlisted in the Army shortly thereafter, on June 2, 1982. He served his country honorably for nearly a decade, receiving an honorable discharge in 1991. Later that year, in November, he began a distinguished career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, excelling in various roles over 27 years until his retirement in December 2018.
Leonard was married twice before finding his true soulmate, Keri Wolf, whom he married in April 2011. He was a devoted father to his children, Lenny Vigil (37), Megan Rogers (née Vigil) (35), and Samuel Joseph Vigil (27), from his previous marriages. Together, Leonard and Keri lovingly raised her two children from her first marriage, Nickolaus Ball (27) and Emily Ball (22). Keri’s passing in August 2021 left a profound void in Leonard’s life.
Leonard was an incredible father and a steadfast supporter of his children. He was their biggest champion, a fierce protector, and an exceptional Papi to his two grandsons, Wilson and Wally. If he wasn’t at home, he could be found fishing in Golden Gate Canyon, gambling in Blackhawk, or hosting dinner parties at his house. He also loved instructing and helping with Westernaires over the years. Leonard’s loss will be deeply felt by many. He made a lasting impact on everyone he met, and those who knew him will forever cherish those memories.
Leonard is survived by his children, Lenny Vigil, Megan Rogers and son-in-law Philip Rogers, and Samuel Vigil; his stepchildren, Nickolaus Ball and girlfriend Shawna Bond and Emily Ball; his grandsons, Wilson Lee Rogers and Wallace Leonard Rogers; his niece and nephew, Amanda and Andrew Vigil; his brother and sister-in-law, Delbert and Deborah Vigil; and his father, Leonard Verle Vigil. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Isabelle Marie Vigil, and his cherished wife, Keri Lynn Wolf-Vigil.
A military honors service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Monday, July 22, at 12:30 p.m. Site B. Because of the small venue, this service will be reserved for family and close friends of Leonard. An open house will follow the service at the home of Megan and Philip Rogers, 17362 Rose Mallow Street, Parker, CO 80134, from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
