Cherie Melinda Ross' Obituary
Cherie Melinda (Knox) Ross, our beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend was called home by her Lord on July 3, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Cherie was born in Houston, Texas on October 21, 1968 to parents Sam and Charlyene (Dickey) Knox. Her family moved to Colorado shortly after her birth and she claimed Colorado as her home state.
Cherie spent her childhood years in Arvada, Colorado where she enjoyed time with her brother, sister, their two horses and four dogs. In her teenage years the family moved to Englewood, Colorado. Sports was a central part of her family life and she found her passion on the volleyball court. She played club ball for Front Range Volleyball Club, then for Cherry Creek High School and earned a scholarship to the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), where she had a record setting college career as a setter and outside hitter for the Seawolves.
During her time at UAA she fell in love the with beauty of Alaska and stayed for several years after graduating. UAA was also where she became a diehard hockey fan. When she moved back to Colorado she shifted her allegiance to the Colorado Avalanche and was a dedicated fanatic, attending as many games as possible every year and making it to playoff and Stanley Cup games as well.
In 1994 she married Norman Ross and after living in Denver and Thornton for a short time they settled in Parker, Colorado where their they raised two sons, Mitch and Sam. Over the next 30+ years together, Cherie and Norm had many adventures, but her first priority was always her boys. No matter what the activity she was their biggest fan – win or lose she was there to celebrate with them or console them with a love only a mother can provide.
Cherie is survived by her husband Norm (Parker, CO), her son Mitch and his wife Kylie (Highlands Ranch, CO), her son Sam and his partner Audrey Sierra-Bogan (Colorado Springs, CO), her father Sam Knox (Prescott, AZ), her brother Brett Knox and his wife Tracy (Prescott, AZ), her sister Angie (Knox) Duryea and her husband Tim (Boise, ID), her sister Courtney Michelle Knox and her partner Pat Johnston (Plano, TX) along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Charlyene (Dickey) Knox-Haschke (Aurora, CO) and her step mother Vicki Knox (Lewisville, TX).
