Courtney Michelle James' Obituary
Courtney Michelle James, 38, lived life with a free spirit, a contagious laugh, and a heart that never met a stranger.
Born on May 22, 1986, Courtney was a firecracker from the start, with gorgeous red hair to match. She had an unmatched ability to make everyone feel like an old friend and she always embraced the beautiful chaos of life. She lived for the moments that made the best stories, and she left behind enough of them to keep us laughing through our tears.
Courtney is survived by her loving parents, Charles and Robin James; her partner, Stephen Schiller; her sister, Ashley Esau; her brother-in-law, Jordan Esau; and her nephew Beckett and niece Rowan Esau, who adored their short time with their wild and wonderful Aunt Coco.
Though her time with us was far too short, Courtney’s spirit will live on in every impromptu adventure, every deep belly laugh, and every moment embracing life to the fullest. In true Courtney fashion, we encourage you to raise a glass, tell a good story, and never take yourself too seriously.
Details for a celebration of Courtney’s life in Kansas City will be shared at a later time through social media and word of mouth.
“Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
but I’d have had to miss the dance.”
Although Courtney was a dedicated “plant lady”, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Colorado Restaurant Foundation, which helps restaurant industry employees advance and thrive through professional training and holistic health & wellness support. This can be done through https://corestaurant.org/foundation/give/ and noting “In memory of Courtney James” in the "anything else you want us to know" field.
Special Request:
Courtney touched many lives across the country, many who won’t be able to join us. We’re putting together a special video to celebrate Courtney’s life and the incredible impact she had on so many of us. We want to create something that captures the love, laughter, and memories we all shared with her.
If you’re willing, we’d love for you to record a short video (under 1 minute) sharing a favorite memory, story, or just a few words about what Courtney meant to you. These will be compiled into a tribute video that will be shared during the service and cherished by her family forever.
Please text your video to Ashley Esau at by April 13. If you have any questions, send a text.
