Ivan Lee Geisler's Obituary
Ivan Lee Geisler, born in 1944 in Indiana, passed away peacefully July 2, 2024 at the age of 79. A dedicated US Army Veteran, Ivan served honorably in Turkey and Germany, where he left a lasting impact on those he met.
Following his military service, Ivan's curiosity and passion for the stars led him to become an active member of the Denver Astronomical Society. His contributions to the field of astronomy reflected his lifelong fascination with the cosmos and his commitment to sharing this wonder with others. Ivan served many years as a Denver Astronomical Society Executive Board member, DAS President in 1983, and Treasurer in 1990. Ivan was also a long-time member of the Van Nattan-Hansen-Anderson Scholarship Committee.
Ivan was also known for his compassionate heart, particularly in his love for older shelter pets. His gentle spirit provided comfort and companionship to many animals in need, embodying his belief in giving second chances to those who needed it most. His love for animals ran deep and he would encourage anyone that is able to visit your local shelter to bring a pet into your heart.
Ivan leaves behind a legacy of service, curiosity, and kindness. He will be remembered fondly by his friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Military Honors will be held to celebrate Ivan's life at a date to be decided at Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider either adopting a shelter pet, making a donation to your local shelter, or making a donation to the Denver Astronomical Society at https://www.denverastro.org/donate/ to honor Ivan's commitment to animal welfare and scientific exploration.
