Orlen Milton Sealand Jr's Obituary
Orlen M. Sealand, Jr. passed peacefully on March 1, 2024 (b. 01/27/1956). He was preceded by his mother, Marjorie Daume Sealand, and father, Orlen Milton Sealand, Sr. He is survived by his three sons: Justin (Kristen), of Woodford, KY, Michael, of Oslo, Norway, and Jacob, of Snellville, GA.; five grandkids: Everett, Garrett, Ava, Wyatt, and Alice; and three siblings: Anne (Mike), Bill (Carolyn), and Leta (Wally).
A graduate of Oak Ridge High School (c/o '74, TN) and the University of Tennessee, Orlen was an Eagle Scout who served in the Marine Corps, piloting helicopters in Vietnam and Korea, post-conflict, before returning to civilian life. His passion for aviation and service were always evident to those around him, and he spent decades flying rescue helicopters and as a check airman training pilots for those same missions. He was complicated and larger than life as a younger man, a multi-sport athlete who often needed the expertise of his mother, an E.R. nurse at the time. His emotional volatility of his youth was tempered by natural consequences, the armed services, parenthood, and his relationship with his Father both in Heaven and on Earth; he reached a balanced, patient and peaceful existence in his later years. He was more inclined to celebrate the Marine Corps birthday than his own. His greatest source of pride was watching his three sons mature into the men they have become.
To honor Orlen the son, brother, father, grandfather, veteran, and aviator, please donate to your local AA chapter and/or school ROTC program in lieu of flowers.
